Description
55% of elderly are non-compliant with their prescription drug orders, whereas approximately 200,000 elderly are hospitalised annually due to adverse drug reactions (Sollitto, 2019).
For the elderly, taking pills can be a tricky task.
When one is battling vision problems and memory loss, keeping track of pills smaller than the size of one’s finger at many various timepoints, is frustrating, to say the least.
Now, you might be wondering – in this automated day and age, why don’t we just build a machine that keeps track for them?
Well, that is exactly what our team will be working on during our Making and Thinkering module in this Special Term.
Our goal is to allow the elderly to simply pour their prescription into our Pill Dispenser, input their prescription orders, and let them sit back and relax as they no longer have to remember when to take their medication – the machine will do it for them!
Now that’s not a bitter pill to swallow!
Vision
To build a pill dispenser that alleviates the stress and confusion the elderly feel, trying to keep track of their medication.
Unlike, other pill dispensers, ours will prioritise elderly usability whilst remaining automated and easy-to-use.
