ROAD MAP TO THE FIRST WORKING PROTOTYPE

OUR TEAM’S GOALS

Comprised of a diverse group of five members with varied academic backgrounds, our team embarked on a mission to develop a unique product that filled a gap in the market. Leveraging our collective expertise in robotics and electronics, we initially envisioned designing a smart robot to address this unmet need in the field of drain inspection.

PRIORITY ON SAFETY

Before embarking on the project, our team considered the safety aspects related to the building and assembly of the robot. We collectively strived to make safety an utmost priority throughout the duration of the project to minimize the risk of injuries.

The key activities of the project, some of their risks, and the management measures the team took are listed below:

Activity Risks Management Measures
3D printing Inhalation of toxic plastic resin fumes

Injury from contact with moving parts

Contact with heated surface

Keep a safe distance away from the machine during operation.
Working with electrical components Electrocution Ensure that Singapore “Safety Mark” plugs are used. Do not operate with wet hands.

Turn off all electrical outlets when not in use.

Soldering Burns from hot solder material

Fire

Awkward posture

Wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as goggles and gloves.

Ensure that there are no flammable materials nearby.

Adopt a proper upright seating posture when soldering

Drilling Cuts from contact with drill Keep all body parts away from the drill bit at all times.

Ensure proper knowledge of operation and supervision

when operating the drill.

Working with high-energy power source (lithium-ion batteries) Fires and explosions

Chemical poisoning

Electrocution

Do not overcharge the battery. Only charge under supervision.

Remove battery from holder when not in use, replace battery is any chemical leakage is observed

Do not handle batteries with wet hands. Ensure that there are no exposed wiring

Assembly of robot Heavy robot may cause crushing injuries

Toxic/Flammable adhesives

Wear proper covered footwear.

If using any adhesives that are flammable, ensure that no open flames or sparks are present when applying the glue. Also, ensure that the glue is used in a well-ventilated area, and do not sniff the glue. Wear a mask if necessary.
