This design was a colossal failure, but taught us a lot about how to crack an egg, presenting us with several problems that we needed to overcome.
- It was impossible to hold the egg on a flat base:
The round shape of the egg and the flat base were incompatible, causing the egg to roll about when pressure was applied through the plunger. To compensate for this, we decided to replace the flat base with an angled surface to hold the egg in place.
- The hole was insufficient to drain all the egg’s contents:
When we tried pouring an egg into the gap, we realized that the small slit was insufficient to drain the contents cleanly into the hole. We decided that a claw, which opened up at the bottom, would be better at draining the egg.
