Welcome to InstructAR
Technology, along with ways in which we visualise and learn things, is changing so rapidly to the point that returning to the past seems implausible, if not impossible. With the advent of technology such as augmented reality (AR), that change may be even faster. However in its current state (even with the likes of Pokemon Go and more recently, Wizards Unite), AR has only been explored by large corporations for the visualisation of procedures and it was only in recent times that AR has opened up to fit the app development market. As such, we would like to close the gap between the two by providing a means to visualise procedures that frequently crop up in everyday life, whether it be fixing one’s bicycle, inserting a SIM card into one’s smartphone or even folding simple origami. In this way, we aim to provide a more interactive and visually appealing alternative to the conventional way of learning something, such as manuals or video tutorials.
But we aspire to do more than just delivering a well-thought and polished product. As we are the first team in the history of Making and Tinkering (M&T) to explore AR and its potential applications, we also would like use this website as an avenue to document our learning experiences throughout this project, for our future peers to learn from should they choose to follow in our footsteps. M&T is, after all, a wonderful opportunity to explore, experiment and put one’s ideas to the (brutal!) test, thus we hope our blog can encourage groups to find more potential and exciting applications of AR.
