[#3] Computer-controlled Electronics Lessons

Computer Controlled Electronics Lesson 1/3

When: 13 May 2019, 2.00PM – 5.00PM
Members present:
Claudia, Vanessa

In this lesson, we learnt about hardware, software, firmware and other electronic parts. Some examples include Arduino, Cura, RAMPS1.4, stepper motors, controllers and thermostats. This lesson gave us a basic introduction into the functions of the various software and equipment so that we are able to filter out those that are essential for our project. Tony showed us a video to allow us to better understand the mechanisms behind a stepper motor, which would be really helpful for our project. We also visited the Making and Tinkering Lab that allowed us to have a better visualization on how an actual 3D printer looks like.

Computer Controlled Electronics Lesson 2/3

When: 14 May 2019, 9:30AM – 12:30PM
Members present: Claudia, Vanessa

In this lesson, we learnt in detail on how to connect and control a LCD screen with our laptops/computers using Arduino. This was done through pre-existing libraries to which we added a few more lines of code. We learnt how to adjust the settings and download certain files to modify the existing features and functions in the LCD screen. Hence, allowing us to learn how to use our laptop/computer to communicate with the LCD screen.

Computer Controlled Electronics Lesson 3/3

When: 14 May 2019, 2.00PM – 5.00PM
Members present: Claudia, Vanessa

In this lesson, we learnt how to modify existing codes to send instructions from our computer in the form of G-code and communicate with 3D printers. In addition, we also learnt how to modify other existing codes in order for us to enable specific codes to be processed and read.
