[#36] Coloured Comeback

We’re finally back to M&T after three long days of CN Yang FOP!

NEW | 3D Printed Embroidery Base

While we were at orientation the past three days, Tony helped us to collect our 3D printed base!

Our new 3D printed base, collected by Tony!

Today we took our base from Tony and put it onto our embroidery machine. Vanessa helped to re-calibrate the base by test-printing the heart shape that we printed last week!

With this new embroidery base, we no longer need to clip the felt cloth to secure the cloth because the styrofoam block fits exactly into the cavity in the 3D printed base, keeping it secure throughout the embroidery printing process.

Changing from external power source to 3D printer’s internal power source

We rearranged the wires on our embroidery machine such that the sewing module and printing base no longer rely on an external power supply, but taps on the 3D printer’s existing internal power source. Because we can’t rely on too many power sources forever, this is a great improvement! However, we still have to rely on an external power source for our jabbing stepper motor, and a power bank to power our controllers (running Marlin and Arduino).

Talk with Dr Ho and Mr Hanyang (Viva)

Dr Ho and Mr Hanyang came to have a chat with us about our project today as part of our grading! It was a pretty chill conversation, fingers crossed that our grades will be good 🀞🏻

NEW | Multicoloured printing

Since we’ve achieved most of our project goals already, today we tried to go above and beyond πŸš€ So, Alexis designed a little birdie for us to print out in multicolour! With the limitations of our machine, it would mean that we need to print each colour separately, changing the yarn in between and hoping that the different coloured segments will all form one coherent picture.

The little birdie that Alexis designed – the body would be one colour, and the beak and eye would be a contrasting colour.Β

And it was a success!! πŸŽ‰

The final product – looking good! 🐦

We’re really proud of the alignment and how all the different prints fit perfectly together to form a cute little bird!

Working on our presentation

With only 3 working days left (including today) for M&T, it’s a high time we started working on our presentation slides. Vanessa kindly helped us type out an overview for our presentation, and today we all chipped in to help flesh out the slides.

BUT we’re gonna keep that under wraps for now πŸ™‚

Other things – Phototaking!

Claudia and Vanessa took a photo with Guo Yao to acknowledge his help and guidance to us throughout these two months! Hopefully we can take another photo with Alexis and Carissa and Tony also!!

Today’s a short day, so that’s all till we meet again tomorrow! πŸ‘‹πŸ»
