Week 2 – 22 May: First Train Depot Visit – Training to be Flexers

To better understand how the pneumatic units are maintained, we visited SMRT depot in Tuas on 22nd May.

As you can see from the picture, the train is lifted above the ground at certain height (1 m) , and the technicians need to lift the pneumatic unit from the ground to the train floor, go into the train and lift it up to install it, one at a time.

They demonstrated using the mobile crane installed beside the elevated trains too.

However, we made a mistake: we did not take dimensions of any parts of the pneumatic unit nor the train nor the depot.

When we got back to NTU, we realized that without the dimensions, we cannot even get started on designing/sketching in SolidWorks/by hand.
We tried to request for blueprints/dimensions from the LTA engineers that we are liaising with, but they did not have the dimensions or blueprints on hand and will require some time to search for them.

Thus, a second visit to the depot was in order: 4th June 2019.
