Our current plan is to make a stand mixer that can make use of voice-control for the turning on and off of the machine, and hopefully also implement being able to change the speed of the mixing or set a timer for mixing.
The rationale behind this is because in baking, mixing is sometimes very crucial, and there is also risk in over-mixing and thus the need for timing the mixing period and having different speed options. Over-mixing can result in the end product being bad.
Our project differs from other IoT devices that are controlled via api as it allows the user to use their voice to control the machine instead of needing to use their hands to touch their device, such as their phone.
Having a voice controlled stand mixer that can have a built-in timer is useful as it allows the person using the machine to multi-task and do other tasks while waiting for the ingredients to mix. Often, in baking, the person’s hands may become dirty or oily from handing ingredients such as flour and butter. Thus, the person may not want to touch the machine with their hands, so there will be less to clean up later.
Ultimately, we hope that this project will help make baking and cooking more convenient and more precise and allow for easier clean up.
