Design Stage 28 May – 7 June
28 May 2021: First Draft
There were some issues we had with this idea. First, we would require very high water pressure to wash the test tubes due to 10 nozzles connected to the same water source. Second, the moving of the waste containers involves electrical components which could be damaged by water. These electrical components could easily come into contact with water via the waste water dripping onto it. Finally, a lid is required at the top to prevent the test tubes from shooting out of the machine due to the high pressure water jet. This makes the machine top heavy and less stable. Therefore, we have decided to change our design.
1 June 2021: Second Draft
To solve the high water pressure issue, we decided to change our design to wash one test tube at a time. The test tubes will be mounted to the disc with terry clips. The tray with the nozzle attached will move upwards to wash the test tube. After washing the test tube, the disc will turn to the next test tube. The waste water will flow into the tray and it will be collected in a waste container.
