Project Overview

The industry of  Cleaning Robots

When we first think of cleaning robots, household cleaning robots such as Roomba comes to mind.

However, there is another silent worker (or killer) in the background of our major industries: The commercial based cleaning robots. These huge robots assist major companies and factories to perform their routine cleaning, lessening the physical burden of cleaning workers. An example of this would be a giant player in this industry: Neo

That being said, many cleaning robots target small spaces such as households, offices or huge spaces such as airport or a factory. There seems to be a lack of suppliers that target laboratories or small sized factories instead.

Covid-19 Driving Demand

The Coronavirus disease (Covid-19) has resulted in a chase for cleanliness, in an attempt at the fight against Covid-19. This is not only true in the household, but also on the commercial level. According to an article by Fortune which interview Avidbot’s CEO, the sales of industry cleaning robots such as Neo has doubled due to Covid-19. In fact, he stated that “People who were not even thinking about it are now eager to buy”. (Cleaning robot sales soars amid coronavirus pandemic | Fortune).

This shows that there is a growing market trend, resulting in companies demanding better cleaning robots that would best suit their needs.

Furthermore, it was stated by Avidbot’s CEO that the demand was already doubling on an annual basis even before Covid-19 struck. This shows that even without Covid-19, demand for commercial cleaning robots are increasing, with more and more companies realizing the need for these products.

Painpoints

The huge commercial robots are targeted towards large areas such as airports or huge factories.  However, there is a lack of suppliers targeted towards laboratories and small to medium size factories, which could provide the efficiency required, as well as meeting the space constraints.

Furthermore, most commercial robots are targeted to a very specific need, which means that companies have to purchase large quantities of robots simply to perform the most basic cleaning, such as sweeping and mopping, increasing cost burden for companies.

Thereby, we aim to target these two painpoints through our project.

The never ending variety of robots just to meet the basic needs.

CleanBot

CleanBot is a modular-based cleaning robot,  which is built to allow different cleaning modules to be swapped. This reduces the number of robots required just for the most basic cleaning need. The ability to swap cleaning modules also allows for new developments of cleaning methods that are specific for the requirements to the location or situation, providing greater customization for different needs.

CleanBot is designed to clean your offices, labs or small warehouses, where it can be left at night to clean, allowing you to return to a clean working environment the next day. We believe that this working partner would work hand in hand with the cleaners, making for safe, clean and comfortable workspace.
