Project Overview

Concept
Our prototype consists of two chambers; one that is increasingly dehumidified, and one that is increasingly humidified, through the use of a desiccant (silica gel beads) along with the Peltier effect. The key principle behind our prototype is the fact that desiccants have been shown to have greater moisture capacity at lower temperatures, and vice versa. With the use of thermoelectric coolers, we are able to adjust the temperature of the desiccants based on the polarity of the thermoelectric cooler modules and thus alter the humidity in the chambers.

Vision
The ultimate goal of our project is to develop a functional prototype of our solid-state humidity pump, and in the course of doing so, learn useful soft and hard skills that we can carry with us in our own disciplines moving forward.
