Our first event since Scholars’ Ceremony was anticipated with fervour and abound with energy. In contrast to our last week of the term, fraught with danger and differentiation, and met with trepidation, Bounce! was an exciting event we did not miss, the high strung finale of our first term!

Shouting in neon yellow and draped in checklists, our Special Programme members outdid themselves with unparalleled enthusiasm and much preparation for the event, going down to the smallest details of transport, safety and of course, organising our group photos. Having anticipated our need for good company, good food and a good workout (after a hectic 7 weeks and likely sedentary lifestyle), they planned thoroughly and finally brought Bounce! to light. All 4 batches of our CNYang family was invited, bringing us closer together and giving us a chance to catch up with one another after our freshmen camp and to learn from our seniors. Emerging from our cocoons dressed in red, blue, black and grey, our respective groups, we delayed no longer than an infinity…

Trampoline park was waiting.

Slipping on our anti slip socks, which were adorable and very functional with their yellow, rubberised soles, we piled into the trampoline arena for a safety talk before we were let loose. Like little children, we wasted no time getting on a trampoline of our own, and launching ourselves into the air, till there was no one not in flight. The harder you fall, the higher you bounce. We need never fear flight; we can go as high as our courage takes us.

Surprise took us first, the elasticity of the trampolines making us feel like we were defying gravity, and adrenaline coursed through our heart and through our entire being. Some reported feelings of unrestrained freedom, and some commented on its mind clearing properties, a sure cure for the mind whirling implications of linear algebraic laws. Some of us evolved frog-like qualities, leaping off from pad to pad like the limit of our leg strength was undefined. Some even did summersaults in the air and pounced off walls, with matrix-worthy speed and agility, landing nimbly on the mountains of padding like cats.

A game of captain’s ball further proved our prowess on the trampolines, as we cheered on our friends and bounced across the mat to get to the ball. We even managed to squeeze countless selfies in between the game, without losing our cool in the game. Still, nothing beat our group photos, with photos of us all suspended in midair saved into our cameras and our hearts. There were floating apparitions of running men, kung-fu warriors, star fishes and other indeterminate combinations of limbs, but whatever the case, the only constant was the fun we were having, apparent on our faces, and the (literal) glow from the exercise we were getting, apparent from the sheen of perspiration on our skin. There was nothing quite like that experience.
