D&D 2016: Destination Infinitum
BY CNYSC PRESS & PUBLICITY PORTFOLIO
On the 29th of February 2016, over a hundred of us made our way down to Crowne Plaza Hotel for the CN Yang Scholars’ Club Dinner and Dance, Destination: Infinitum. Mingling patiently in the lobby, it wasn’t long before our chairperson for D&D 2016, ‘Prime Minister’ Zaki, opened the doors and welcomed us on board our ‘spaceship’.

A video made and narrated by our very own D&D organising committee was screened, informing us of our quest into outer space. Thoroughly entertained as we always were, and eager to find out what was installed for us in this uniquely themed D&D, we busied ourselves with a modified Rubik’s cube found on our tables.
We settled into our seats only to be quickly ushered onto the dance floor as we commenced with the first segment of the evening – a dance. Instead of traditional waltzes or ballroom dancing, we were introduced to ‘Popping’, a dance truly befitting of our futuristic theme. With moves such as a double-step, single-step, and even an astronaut walk in slow-motion, many of us were tripping over our feet and crashing into our peers as we spun around in circles. Our professors, too, were eager to dance as they took to the dance floor more gracefully than many of us. But, it was undeniably enjoyable and less awkward than many of us had feared.
With our bellies empty from stumbling across the dance floor, we wandered back to our tables as the appetiser was served. Dinner comprised of mouth-watering dishes including shrimp salad and duck confit complemented with a side of olive bread and vinegar dip. We chatted over our food and caught up with our friends, but no Dinner and Dance would be complete without games and performances.
Our finalists from the Night is Yang took to the stage haunting melodies and entertaining dances, followed by a voting session to crown our champion for the competition. Members of the NTU hall dance, Bee Lee, Meldon and Victor, also graced the ceremony with a captivating performance.

The first game of the evening was a simple space-themed charades. Filled with movie and planetary references, we were fooled into assuming that we could easily complete the games lined up for us. All was well until an extra-terrestrial villain swept down the hall, accompanied by his minions, and captured our ‘Prime Minister’, Zaki. Vowing to bring us to our doom unless we could crack the code of a combination lock, we soon found ourselves challenged by pun-filled crossword puzzles, codes, and modified Sudoku. Scrambling from table to table in hopes of combining our wits and resources, it wasn’t long before we emerged victorious.
Saved from doomsday, we could now settle comfortably back into our chairs and tucked into our desserts.
Destination: Infinitum drew to a close all too soon and we gathered for a final group photo. Waving goodbye to our friends, we alighted from our ‘spaceship’ with fond memories of an otherworldly evening.
