Pew!

Silence fell in this dimly-lit room. Everyone was aiming down the barrel intensely. My heart pounded harder than ever. I could feel blood rush into my brain, giving heightened awareness and sight in the darkness. Droplets of sweat streamed down my cheeks. We were all in position, some of us behind waist high covers, others camping behind windows. Patience is key to an ambush.

“They are in! Fire! Fire!”. Once the first few enemy team members entered the room, the dark room was brightened by the sheer number of laser beams. We could see the enemy pushing each other to struggle out of the line of fire. We aimed at them across the room as they desperately tried to find cover before retaliating, to no avail. They were mercilessly gunned down by our formidable lasers. Pinning the enemies in one corner, we thought to ourselves, “We can win this!”

Laser beams flying as the teams charged into battle

All of a sudden, my sensors began to vibrate. I was shot. Someone went behind the formation and wiped out the team. Within the few seconds, all our meticulous co-ordination vaporized into nothing. We could no longer pin the main group of enemies in the corner as our guns had to reset. They broke free and came for my teammates. All hell broke loose.

We had an exciting and wonderful time playing laser quest.

“The PEW! War” was organized by CN Yang Scholars Programme Special Projects Portfolio as the finale event of this academic year. The PEW War was a Laser Tag event held at Laser Quest @ HomeTeamNS Bukit Batok. After the hectic past month of research report writing, presentations and the inconceivably brief time to study for finals, all of us needed to relieve stress. The timing for this event could not be more opportune. It offered the CN Yang scholars a great time to catch up on each other’s lives and strengthen friendships even as the academic year came to a close. Seniors and juniors came together to bond over some light games and good food.

Good food, great company!
