The Mid-Autumn Festival is a traditional cultural activity celebrate by the Chinese in Singapore. The festival was to celebrate the harvest and enjoy the successful reaping of rice and wheat with food offerings made in honour of the moon. In addition to appreciating the moon and eating moon cakes, there is actually a very interesting custom in China, which is lighting lanterns. In ancient times, lanterns were used as lighting tools.
With this, the Heritage Club had organised a Mid-Autumn Lantern Making Workshop to celebrate and spread the culture.
The highlight of the event would be the lantern making session and the tour around Nanyang Lake. Participants seemed to enjoy the process of handcrafting their unique lantern. Besides, everyone enjoyed the peaceful walk around Nanyang Lake while admiring the moon, sharing facts about mid-autumn festival. Also, not to leave out the fun story telling session! It was great to listen to stories we have always listened to when we were young. Finally before dismissal, all participants took a group photo at the gazebo in Nanyang Lake for remembrance.
