Singapore Global Money Week 2019

Global Money Week 2019 was a remarkable opportunity for the NTU Investment Interactive Club to further its mission of promoting financial literacy through the National Cashflow Competition 2019 (NCF 2019). Held on March 23, 2019, at the Great Eastern Life for Excellence venue, this event aligned perfectly with Global Money Week’s goals of inspiring children and young people to learn about money matters, livelihoods, and entrepreneurship. Sponsored by Great Eastern, NCF 2019 aimed to introduce participants to essential financial concepts through the L Cube Boardgame, developed by SmartCo from the Lifelong Learning Institution Singapore. This engaging and easy-to-play board game simulated real-life financial scenarios, making it accessible and enjoyable for a diverse audience ranging from secondary students to undergraduates and the general public.

Throughout the day, participants competed in various categories, with preliminary rounds leading up to an exciting final in the evening. The event was graced by Mr. Sarjit Singh, Executive Chairman of Ardent Associates LLP, who delivered an insightful speech, adding to the event’s prestige. The competition not only challenged participants’ financial acumen but also offered fantastic prizes, including lucky draws. Aligning with the themes of Global Money Week, the competition emphasized the importance of financial education and literacy, encouraging young individuals to become financially savvy and responsible.

Feedback from participants and teachers was overwhelmingly positive. Teachers appreciated the well-organized event and noted the educational value of the L Cube Boardgame, which introduced students to financial terms and concepts like CPF and tuition loan interests in a fun and engaging way. Participants reported gaining valuable insights into financial planning and investment strategies, experiencing real-world economic scenarios through the game. This educational approach aligned perfectly with Global Money Week’s goal of fostering financial awareness and skills among the youth.

The event’s success was reflected in the impressive turnout, with over 616 participants and an 87% attendance rate. The dedicated efforts of the NTU Investment Interactive Club’s committee members and facilitators were instrumental in managing the large number of participants and ensuring the smooth execution of the event. Their hard work and enthusiasm were evident throughout the day, contributing significantly to the event’s positive reception.

In conclusion, the National Cashflow Competition 2019 was a resounding success, fostering financial literacy and awareness among the youth in line with the objectives of Global Money Week.
