Global Money Week (GMW) 2024, themed “Protect Your Money, Secure Your Future,” highlighted the essential need for effective money management and a responsible, informed approach to personal finances. The theme aimed to raise awareness about potential risks in the financial sector, including scams such as phishing, money muling, and online shopping frauds, as well as data privacy issues like identity theft. The focus was particularly on young people, who are more vulnerable to financial fraud due to limited financial literacy and experience. Throughout the week, participants were encouraged to not only engage with the year’s theme but also revisit previous themes or incorporate the permanent GMW slogan, “Learn. Save. Earn.,” tailoring their activities to fit the national context.
Nanyang Technological University’s NTU Investment Interactive Club, the largest financial society at the institution, proudly participated in GMW 2024 by promoting financial literacy through a range of initiatives. The club hosted the National Cashflow Competition on March 9th, 2024, Singapore’s premier financial board game competition, which introduced over 740 young participants to financial concepts in an engaging manner, enhancing their understanding of financial literacy.
Additionally, the Invest Academy, part of GMW 2024, provided weekly lessons throughout the event, offering insights into various financial topics. This initiative aimed to equip members with the skills needed for informed financial decision-making, securing their future.
The NTU Investment Interactive Club also organized the Eurasia Asset Management Challenge, an annual competition that drew university students from Europe and Asia. This challenge served as a platform to emphasize the importance of early financial awareness, providing students with the knowledge and skills to make sound financial decisions. Furthermore, the club’s Alternative Investment Symposium offered attendees insights into sustainable investments and emerging trends, showcasing the club’s commitment to advancing financial literacy and awareness during Global Money Week 2024.
