The Blood Donation and Donor Recruitment (BDDR) portfolio of Red Cross Youth NTU Chapter works closely with the Blood Donor Recruitment Programme at the Singapore Red Cross (SRC).
Our portfolio aims to raise awareness on blood donation and increase the population of regular youth donors. The Health Sciences Authority (HSA) collects, tests and stores the blood while SRC organises mobile blood drives and focuses on the recruitment, retention and recognition of blood donors. In collaboration with SRC., we organise bi-annual Blood Donation Drives on the NTU campus every semester.
In addition, we also organise regular engagement sessions such as Educational Talks and our Interview Series with blood donors or staff from HSA and SRC to promote the spirit of blood donation among the NTU population and beyond, with the support from HSA.
Organising Blood Donation Drives is a team effort involving not only the BDDR Main Committee members, but also our sub-committee members and volunteers. From pre-event publicity to the actual Blood Donation Drive, our sub-committee members are involved in handling a variety of tasks, making it an enriching and meaningful experience.
If you are a team player who is dedicated and passionate about the cause, BDDR wants you! Don’t worry, you do not have to be an eligible blood donor to join us.
For any enquiries or interest in collaborating with BDDR, please feel free to email us at redcross-bddr@e.ntu.edu.sg.
The CRE portfolio takes charge of Chapter-wide events, such as the Chapter Meeting, where members come together to witness the progress of the club and be updated on ongoing projects or future developments. As members of the CRE portfolio, we build on skills such as event management, people management, and communication skills so that we can bring more meaningful and enjoyable programmes for the chapter. We also take charge of sourcing sponsorships for major chapter events like Project iAppreciate. We are also the ones behind the delicious catering spreads and the very packed exam welfare packs!
Be part of an energetic team that brings about vibrant experiences for the Chapter members!
The NTU Red Cross Youth Community Engagement (RCY CE) portfolio is centered around giving back to society by volunteering for various beneficiaries. At our core, we aim to serve the people and show that we care for them. Our portfolio provides many opportunities for volunteers to engage with different groups of people from all walks of life. Additionally, we advocate volunteerism and its importance – not just for the beneficiaries, but for the volunteers too!
We conduct monthly visits to our current beneficiary, the elderly, in Care Corner. Care Corner is a non-profit organisation that actively engages and befriends the frail and vulnerable elderly. We plan and conduct sessions involving games and activities for around 30 seniors. Apart from our main beneficiary, we also organize Project iAppreciate – an annual event that aims to show appreciation to certain groups such as cleaners on campus and migrant workers.
In December 2022, we will be celebrating International Migrants Day with the migrant workers in Singapore. By setting up a booth and engaging the workers in hands-on activities, we wish to express our gratitude for their service and contributions to our nation. We also aim to cultivate friendships between the youth and migrant workers. For portfolio members, there are multiple opportunities in planning and organizing events, involving planning for the programs at Care Corner or for other initiatives, procuring the necessary logistics, and engaging with other students and the public through publicity and advocacy. If you are keen to make a difference in the community around you, sign up as a volunteer with us! The Fundraising (FR) portfolio focuses on raising funds for the various beneficiaries – including but not limited to Singapore Red Cross, and any other non-profit organizations.
Each semester, we would hold a donation-drive event in NTU for our chosen beneficiary for the semester. The events held are unique and are up to the committee's collaborative decision. Up until now, the Fundraising portfolio has managed to come up with innovative ideas to raise funds – through pre-order sales with different participating businesses, or online-fundraising. However, the portfolio recognizes that the NTU community has more than funds to donate – other things such as unused notebooks, or clothes can be collected and donated to the underprivileged community as well. We did so during one of our most prominent events, the Cloth Donation Drive, where a total of thirty boxes of clothes were collected from the NTU community to be given to the Salvation Army.
Joining Fund Raising portfolio will give you chances to grow yourselves, as well as helping other people in need. You will get a chance to get event organization and management experience and experience in persuading people. If you love to meet people and you would like to challenge and train your persuasion skills, Fund Raising Portfolio would be a suitable place for you.
