On the first Thursday night of the new semester, USPians crowded into the USP lounge, expectant. The first four days of school had been long, and the stresses of renewed academic rigour were setting in. Such stresses, however, were quickly allayed. As our Arts, Culture and Social Director Yi Jin brought out brown trays of heaven from the freezer, bowed heads raised in anticipation and the heaviness lifted.
Yes, the eclairs had finally arrived!
They were laid out in trays of twelve, alongside generous helpings of potato chips. Despite Yi Jin’s instruction to wait for the eclairs to de-frost, they were quickly devoured.
Meanwhile, a karaoke session had been set up for the vocally gifted (or willing) by the television. There was no better time than this to unwind, enjoy eclairs and listen to good music.
Eclairs aside, most USP students concurred that the event was a great way to kick off the semester. Many USP students caught up with each other, especially with those that was on exchange in the previous semester.
Xiao Zi Bang, a Year 1 Public Policy & Global Affairs student, who was part of the organising committee, said that BacktoSkool2 was put together with several goals in mind.
“Most of us went our separate ways during the holidays. I wanted us to reunite and share our experiences, as well as lift our spirits at the start of the semester,” said Zi Bang.
Pang Jin Hu, a Year 2 Accounting & Business student, said he felt that BacktoSkool2 was a success, after devouring many eclairs. “It wasn’t the most sensible thing that I’ve done but it was definitely a fun and memorable way to start the semester.”
The night was certainly eclair success indeed!
