It was such a privilege to have been invited to the very first NTU-USP Reunion Event (Jointly organised by the Alumni, Career and Student Outreach and the Arts, Culture and Social Affairs committee) on 11 Feb 2017. Being a part of the first batch of students to have graduated from NTU-USP, it has been some time since I’ve met up with anyone back in school. It was great that the organizing committee planned for this event to coincide with the Lunar New Year, thus allowing a more festive atmosphere.
I was also honored to have been asked to say a few words on Dr. Therese, who sadly left us on 7 Feb. Dr. Therese was one of the most welcoming and affable professors that I’ve known, and it was truly a blessing to have been acquainted with her.
A year has passed since I last met up with anyone from NTU-USP since the NTU-USP Alumni and Seniors Sharing Session back in 2016. With our hectic working schedules as young adults fresh out of university, I really appreciate that there was someone out there to help coordinate events like this to allow the alumni the opportunity to catch up and reminisce about past experiences. It has also allowed us to meet the lovely USP juniors. They helped us find out about the new happenings and endeavors going on at NTU-USP. As seniors, we also used the session to provide fresh insights and advice to prepare the juniors for the corporate world.
The activities also revealed some fun facts about USP that I hadn’t known previously, such as the various schools NTU-USP has recently partnered with as part of the new Study Abroad Programme. All in all, I enjoyed myself thoroughly last Saturday – being in the company of my batch mates, my friends and my juniors. I hope that this practice of alumni engagement can continue as a USP tradition for the years to come. It was truly a day to remember.
