On 11 December 2015, USP students organized an outing for children at Fei Yue Community Service, our partner beneficiary, to give them a glimpse of what they can be when they grow up, through various games and fun-filled activities.
More than 30 USP students participated in this Social Service Project entitled U Aspire, where they volunteered to bring the children to the Army & Police Museum to learn about the patriotic dedication of soldiers and policemen, and conducted science experiments to stimulate the children’s intellectual curiosity about the natural world.
“Through this event, we aim to expose the children from Fei Yue to various job industries in a light-hearted and interactive manner,” said Sylvia Chen, 19, the USP student in charge of U Aspire.
The children learned about the challenges faced by each profession, as well as the role they play in our society, all through the form of activities and games.
They were also happy to be able to go on an excursion with the USP students, where the children affectionately called them “Gor Gor and Jie Jie”, or brothers and sisters in Chinese.
The USP students themselves soon realised that taking care of children was not easy, especially since they were very easily excited and had to keep up with their tempo.

“I was surprised by the amount of energy and enthusiasm the children had, I could barely keep up! But what I learned was that I need to be patient and understanding with children, and we had a good time afterwards,” said Lee Si Yu, 19.
At the end of the day, the USP volunteers found it meaningful and fulfilling to give back to the community and inspire the younger ones at the same time.
“My biggest takeaway was that even though I only volunteered one day of my time, I was able to play a part in helping to inspire young children to reach their dreams,” said Meredith Ng, 19
