The School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (SPMS) warmly congratulates the Class of 2022. Several of our undergraduate students have received academic prizes in recognition of their exceptional grades , outstanding final-year projects, and other accomplishments. The winners for this year are listed below:
Lee Kuan Yew Gold Medal Award -Matthew Ng, Nur Amaline Lai Shan Shan and How Wei Bin
Recipients of this award are students who excelled academically over the course of four years of undergraduate education in SPMS. This year’s winners were Matthew Ng Cheng Heng from the Mathematical Sciences programme, Nur Amalina Lai Shan Shan from Physics and Applied Physics, and How Wei Bin from Chemistry and Biological Chemistry.
Shell Eastern Petroleum Gold Medal cum Cash Award- Teo Hau Tian and Chen Ru Ting, Jaslyn
The Shell Eastern Petroleum Gold Medal cum Cash Award is awarded to outstanding undergraduates in the Division of Chemistry and Biological Chemistry and the Division of Physics and Applied Physics. This year’s winner was Teo Hau Tian from Physics and Applied Physics, and Chen Ru Ting Jaslyn from Chemistry and Biological Chemistry.
Singapore Mathematical Society Gold Medal cum Book Prize – Teo Jia Xuan, Joven
This prize is awarded each year to the student with the best overall performance in the Mathematical Sciences, Mathematical Sciences and Economics, Mathematical and Computer Sciences, or Physics and Mathematical Sciences programmes. This year, it was won by Teo Jia Xuan, Joven from the Mathematical Sciences programme.
SNIC- Professor Koh Lip Lin Gold Medal- Kha Tuan Koa
The Singapore National Institute of Chemistry (SNIC), a national body representing Singapore’s chemistry-related professions, established the Singapore National Institute of Chemistry Fund for Excellence in Chemistry in 2018. The fund supports the Singapore National Institute of Chemistry – Prof Koh Lip Lin Gold Medal, awarded annually to the best undergraduate Final Year Project in Chemistry and Biological Chemistry. This year’s award went to Kha Tuan Koa.
Pfizer Book Prize – Siow Jing Xuan (Chemistry and Biological Chemistry)
This book prize is awarded to the student with the best final-year project in Chemistry and Biological Chemistry. Siow Jing Xuan received the award this year for her project, titled “‘Intensity-dependent photoionization rates and geminate recombination kinetics of liquid H2O and D2O in intense laser fields”.
Staff Recreation Book Prize – Tan Zhi En, Joshua (Mathematical Sciences and Economics)
This book prize is given to the student in the Mathematics and Economics or Mathematical Sciences and Economics programme with the highest final-year project. This year, it was awarded to Tan Zhi En, Joshua.
Ng Kong Beng Best Project Prize in Mathematical Sciences – Matthew Ng Cheng Heng
This book prize is awarded to the final year student in the Mathematical Sciences, Mathematical Sciences and Economics, Mathematical and Computer Sciences, or Physics and Mathematical Sciences programmes with the best final year project. This year, Matthew Ng Cheng Heng received the award.
