The annual College of Science (CoS) Day was first introduced back in 2013 and has been a much-anticipated event in the College’s calendar each year. Jointly organised by the student clubs from the 4 Schools, the event was finally held on 13 February after a 2-year hiatus. CoS is proud to have its own day of celebrations, a day where students from the 4 Schools can come together to mingle and bond over a shared love of the sciences.

Student organizers from the ASE Club, Biological Sciences Club, SPMS Club and CCEB Club collaborated on this year’s CoS Day, themed “Otters in Space.” The clubs’ goals for CoS Day 2023 were to welcome students to the new semester, encourage an appreciation for the various sciences, build a more cohesive College culture, and raise awareness regarding sustainability issues.

Event goers received goodie bags and enjoyed snacks such as popcorn and churros from several food booths that were available. Game booths were set up, where event goers enjoyed such games as “Anatomy Pictionary,” where players drew pictures of body parts while others had to guess the drawn body part, or “DIY Electricity Fishing,” where players competed to complete an electrical circuit by using fishing rods made of wires to catch toy fish.

There were also workshop booths where event goers could learn how to make flowers for Valentine’s Day from tissue paper and pipe cleaners or make their own slime. They also got the chance to learn how to make “ecobricks,” which are plastic bottles filled and packed with dry pieces of plastic and learned how the use of ecobricks can help keep plastic out of the environment and be put to good use for making things.

The event kicked off with the presentation of the OG Department Store – Mr. Tay Tee Peng Distinguished Undergraduate Student Award (DUSA) to Charissa Ho and Janice Ng, who were each given the award for their volunteer projects aimed at helping children suffering from chronic illnesses as well as their caregivers. You can read more about their projects and the award here.

This was followed by stage games and performances from the NTU Cultural Activities Club (CAC) Chinese Orchestra and the Hall 7 Jam Band. By the end of the day, the event saw about 600 College students, faculty members and staff who joined in the festivities.

CoS looks forward to hosting more CoS Days in the future, where students from all over the College can come together and have fun in the spirit of a OneCoS family.
