From August 5 to 11, 2024, a team of students from NTU’s School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (SPMS) competed in the International Mathematics Competition (IMC), hosted by the American University in Bulgaria. The competition is open to students in their first to fourth year of university, with participants aged 23 or younger. Contestants face challenging problems from fields including Algebra, Analysis (Real and Complex), Geometry, and Combinatorics.

The NTU team delivered its best performance to date. Phan Huu An (Mathematical and Computer Sciences) won the Grand First Prize for the second year in a row, with Tran Thang Long (Mathematical Sciences) earning a First Prize, and Zeng Ruixiao (Computer Sciences) and Pham Thanh Phong (Mathematical Sciences) securing Second Prizes.

Guided by team leader Camille Mau and faculty mentor Dr. Fedor Duzhin, the team had completed a three-week intensive training camp. The first week involved independent problem-solving, followed by five teaching sessions covering key mathematical areas in the second week. The final week consisted of four rigorous selection tests.

The NTU team achieved an overall rank of 11th, notching the highest-ever placement for NTU Maths in this international mathematics competition.
