Ἀήρ (Air) (2013)

Teong Shi Hong Derek, Singapore

Description

Ἀήρ (air) is a conceptual set of clothes that creates a suitable environment around the wearer through “breathing”.

It passively regulates the temperature of the air around the wearer simultaneously, though the application of phase change materials. This piece of technology comes in the form of a nanoparticle powder, which is then suspended in a binding solvent, and applied onto the surface of the fabric.

These nanoparticles will absorb heat from the wearer’s body through conduction and when they melt, the nanoparticles release the heat to the surroundings, in the process cooling the wearer down. When the temperature is low enough, the nanoparticles will revert back to their solid state, ready to begin the process of cooling the wearer down anew.
