Prosthetics Shoes (2014)
Tan Jia Yi Veronica, Singapore
Description
This pair of Prosthetics Shoes embodies the desire to elongate one’s legs. The feet inclination of women in high heels reminded me of ballerinas in their pointe shoes. The shape of pointe shoes when ballerinas were on their toes was then extracted and a more vertically inclined solid piece was added beneath the front to create an illusion of elongated feet. That is a good 10cm added to the wearer’s body! Initially a stick was added for stability of the heel but removed, as it does not fit into the design at all. In its place is the shadow of the heel when light is shone on it. The mouth of the heel shoe is also adjusted to make the shape of the shoe look more lifted and more fitted with the wearer’s legs.
