The Mastery Training Series is a set of structured training workshops that will build care and support competencies progressively from foundational to advanced levels for stakeholders.
Foundation of Care and Support I
- Identify individuals at risk: Knowledge about the signs and symptoms of distress
- A better understanding of those at risk by improving knowledge about mental health issues
- Effectively support others with enhanced listening and communication skills
- Reach out and support a person in distress confidently
- Mentor and coach others (for faculty members) or be a peer buddy/befriender (for student helpers/leaders) with enhanced skills
- Direct those in need to appropriate resources within NTU, and provide linkages if needed
Mastering Care and Support (Intermediate)
- Identify the common mental health issues that affect NTU students and staff
- Identify the motivation and change for effective counselling
- Identify the signs and symptoms of distressed and aggressive behaviours
- Apply the Counselling Common Factors and Humanistic Approach
- Apply basic suicide risk assessment and mental health first aid skills
- Apply Learned Optimism, Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, and Mindfulness to self and others
