1.

-health problem after birth
-Large Offspring Syndrome
-cloning the dog will only get a genetically same dog, no changes in the gene

2.

pros
– more nutritional value
– extra shelf life
– can be planted in harsh environment

cons
– disrupt the balance of biodiversity
– not organic
– people may develop allergy

we will accept the offer, because it can solve the problem of potential famine.

1.

(a) C6(H2O)6
(c) No. Isomers have different chemical properties hence giving different sweetness.

2.

There will always be chemicals (compounds, molecules in organic food) involved in prodairy organic food hence it is impossible to have all organic chemical free diet.

1.

Styrofoam is made up of polystyrene foam. When polystyrene dissolves in acetone, air in foam is released, polymer rearranged causing it to look like massive quantity of material is being dissolved into a small volume of liquid.

2.

a. LDPE has low tensile strength so it bends easily.

b. HDPE has less branching, resulting in more molecular forces of attraction and higher tensile strength.

3.

No, intermolecular forces (eg. Van Der Waals and Hydrogen bonds) between chains of plastic polymers are not very strong and can be overcame easily allows chains to slide past each other when stretched.

Interaction in paper are different and much stronger as it does not have same chemical properties as plastics.

4.

a. – Non-toxic
– Capable of maintaining a good mechanical integrity (stable)
– Capable of controlled rate of degradation
– Pore size sufficient for water vapour to pass through but kept out water droplets
(expand and stretch to form a membrane)

b. Poly (Methylmethacrylate) (PMMA)
– Non-toxic
– Permeable to oxygen
– Comfortable
– Inexpensive
– Conform eye shape and easily cleaned

c. Hard => clarity, light weight
Soft => soft, flexible, permeable to oxygen, comfortable

1.

They differ in number of neutrons in nucleus (isotopes).
They differ in their arrangement e.g. Graphite, diamond

3 ways:
1. Different number of neutrons, protons, electrons (Carbon have 6e, 6p and 6n while U has 92e, 92p and 146n)
2. Most isotopes of carbon are stable whereas isotopes or uranium are radioactive.
3. Different chemical property hence reactivity

2.

Both N-14 and N-15 have the same number of electrons and protons hence they have same chemical properties. N-14 has one less neutron than N-15 so they have different physical properties.

3.

A. 94 protons
B. 93: Neptunium, 94: plutonium
C. 86 protons

4.

E: fuel rod
D: cooling water into the core
B: cooling water out of the core
A: control rod assembly
C: control rods

1.

Required a lot of energy, expensive.
Not efficient (1% of water requires 12500 plants)

2.

Either. Polar compounds are only water soluble and they are likely to contain more OH bonds which are polar.
Fat soluble compounds contain C-H bonds that are non polar

3.

A. Will not use electrical appliances to dry laundry (less sulfur dioxidde, Carbon dioxide and other products)
B and e. Reduce carbon dioxide footprints by using less vehicles to transport.
D. Reduce energy used to heat the water
C. More efficient, save water and electricity

4.

A. Coal fired electric will produce dust and dust will reflect light and hence resulting in low visibility. In addition valleys prevents the dispersion of dust which cause low visibility as well.
