Lombok

Lombok is located just beside Bali and is known as popular habitat for both Green Sea turtle and Loggerhead turtle. Because Lombok is not as popular as Bali, sea turtle habitat has not been destroyed as much as those in Bali. But due to the increasing population of tourist, Lombok starts to get reconstruction and the habitat of the sea turtles are being threatened.

One program which is also opened to all tourist is the sea turtle conservation in Gili Nanggu. The conservation has been established since 1995, and thousands of sea turtles has been saved and released into the sea. One of the successful program provided by its management is purchasing sea turtle eggs from the market, and buried it in the sea for around month. Through this program, the successful rate of birth is about 80%, and the hatchlings are slowly nourished for 6 months before they are released to the open sea.

Most conservation in Lombok is seen in the form of donation, like that started by locals in Gili Trawangan and Bolong’s Turtle Sanctuary. Although it might seem that donation might not be helping much, it does do its wonder. With donation, it helps locals to conserve their environment which includes the habitat of the sea turtles.
