Education

A photo I took of a bee collecting nectar and pollen on a flower.

Through educating the farmers as well as the public, values and behaviours that are beneficial in dealing with Tragedy of the Commons can be instilled. Furthermore, attitudes towards the honey bee population can also be changed. These can be done through two major aspects, the information and the resolution.

Through providing information to the people, awareness of the prevalent issues can be created in them and therefore bring immediate personal actions. Furthermore, teaching of pro-environmental behaviours can help foster these healthy behaviours.

For example, workshops and events can be conducted to educate farmers and the public on the issues that the bee population is facing and the major effects of these issues. Then, appropriate techniques of farming can be disseminated to these people in order to foster pro-environmental farming behaviours.

However, this is a weak approach by itself, as people tend to return to their usual way of living because of the effort needed to make changes in their lives. Therefore, this approach should be used together with the other approaches in order to maximize the effects on success.
