There are indeed some laws enforced to protect the sun bears. For instance, some countries banned paw soup and the use the bear bile to make medicine. It is also illegal to keep sun bears as domestic pets. The government also protects some parts of the rainforests, making the habitat of the sun bear safer for them to live in.
However, despite these laws enforced, there are still quite a substantial amount of illegal activities regarding the sun bear, especially in the trade for their bile and keeping the cubs as pets. This is due to the high profitability earned from these transactions and the enforcement not being strict enough.
