Events and Campaigns

Over the years, the Singapore Zoo has many zoo-themed events and launched many campaigns to promote the awareness of wildlife conservation. These events are meant to engage the public to join in the conservation efforts carried out by the Zoo.

Some examples of these events and campaigns are as stated below:

Zoolympics

This event is usually carried out during the June School Holidays. Children are encouraged to participate in this activity trail whereby there will be various challenges stations located throughout the zoo. At each station, participants can put their own skills up against some of the skills of the animals in the zoo (e.g. the speed of a cheetah). Through the interactive competition, participants are able to learn more about different animals’ unique adaptions and capabilities. This injects more fun and enjoyment in a dry topic.

Junior Zoo Keeper Program

This program provides the younger generation an opportunity to learn more about the occupation – zoo keeper. They will learn about the daily routine of being a zoo keeper and also measures to take care of wildlife.

Safari Zoo Run

The Safari Zoo Run was conceptualised in 2009 to commemorate one of our most adored animal personalities, Orang Utan Ah Meng. This annual run will take place within the park grounds of the Night Safari and Singapore Zoo. Runners will be taking the race course where they will get the chance to enjoy the fascinating animal exhibits along the way as well. Participation in the Safari Zoo Run gives the public a chance to indirectly contribute to wildlife conservation because part of the proceeds will be channeled for provide care for endangered animals in both the Night Safari and Singapore Zoo.

This is the most recent campaign carried out in 2014. It aims to promote awareness of excessive poaching of rhinos for their horns and this results in rhinos to be critically endangered right now. This campaign aims to spread this awareness among the public via social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook. Also, the campaign provides the public with more information about some of the misconceptions people have about the severity hunting rhinos for their horns. This helps people to gain more insights about the situation and to raise awareness about the plight of these rhinos!
