A commitment to a greener future starts with the awareness of the importance of electricity conservation. This is what the members of Earthlink NTU, as well as like-minded volunteers from Jurong Spring Community Club Youth Executive Committee and Hwa Chong Institution, hoped to inculcate in the residents of Jurong Spring during Earth Hour 2016.

A series of events including a Training Workshop, an Outreach Programme and a Night Event with the residents, were carried out on 19 March 2016 to commemorate Earth Hour. Sharing on the current situation of global warming, which results in rising sea levels and temperatures, students and volunteers went door-to-door to engage residents and encourage them to take practical steps to conserve electricity and recycle materials.

Gracing the Night Event was Mr Desmond Lee, Senior Minister of State for Home Affairs and National Development. While the residents were being treated to food and performances and having fun at the interactive game booths, the students drove home the message of making a positive difference through a collective and conscious effort to inspire greener lifestyles.

The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it.
