This is a 13-weeks semester-long course places special emphasis on intensive practice of Chinese fiction. You are required to have hands-on practice in writing various genres of fiction. The objective of this course is to guide you into producing Chinese fictions which possess creativity and to encourage you to publish your works. This course will be conducted in Mandarin Chinese.

Overview 概述

学生需要在课程中欣赏和讨论成长小说、乡土小说、科幻小说、武侠小说、后现代小说的写作技巧,并且从经典小说中学习写作技巧,然后创作出小说作品。

In all, through this course, you will be able to differentiate various genres of fiction writing, develop understanding and gain knowledge in appreciation of literary works, gain practical experience in creative writing as well as interpreting literary works. Firstly, this course introduces fictional forms, including the novel, novella, short story, and flash fiction. Various genres of fiction will be discussed in this course, e.g. “bildungsroman” fiction, “native soil” fiction, science fiction, martial arts fiction, and postmodern fiction. You will gain the ability to appreciate the styles and techniques found in fiction classics. You will practise the writing techniques found in fiction classics to stimulate your own fictional self-expression.

修完课程后,学员可以:

  • 描述小说的不同文类特征和功能(例如:成长小说、乡土小说、科幻小说,武侠小说,后现代小说)
  • 应用课程所学习到的概念和理论来分析不同文类小说的美学手法、主题与探讨的议题
  • 评鉴不同文类小说的优点与缺点

By the end of the course, participants will:

  1. Describe the natures and features of five fictional genres, i.e. bildungsroman fiction, native soil fiction, science fiction, martial arts fiction and postmodern fiction.
  2. Apply the concepts and theories learnt from this course to analyze artistic devices, topics and subject matters of five fictional genres.
  3. Evaluate the strengths and weakness of any fiction belonging to the five types of fictions.

  • 中级写作者 – 定义:已把写作作为业余或事业但还没通过主流出版社发表过任何作品的写作人。
  • 高级写作者 – 定义:已通过主流出版社发表过至少一部作品的写作人。

This course is open to undergraduate students of Nanyang Technological University through the academic enrolment process.

Writers including:

  • Intermediate Writers — Writers who have chosen to pursue writing as a full time or part time career with a serious, professional intent but have not yet published with a mainstream or recognised independent publisher, or
  • Advanced Writers — Writers who have published at least one book with a mainstream or recognised independent publisher, and/or published in at least one literary journal and/or anthology.

About Khor Ewe Pin

1955年生,马来西亚吉打人。大学时代修习动物学系,后进修教育硕士学位。曾任教师、编辑、课本编者、专栏作家。2006年开始创作少年长篇小说、绘图小说等,著有超过40部作品。2010年起,陆续将34部作品授权中国青岛出版社和浙江少年儿童出版社在中国出版简体中文版,并在中国完成超过1000场校园讲座活动。少年长篇小说《七天》《闪亮的时刻》《十月》《鹅卵石》《青色的围墙》被改编成电视剧。曾获马来西亚第四届乡青中篇小说奖第一名、第一届马汉儿童文学双年奖,2020年因推广儿童文学的贡献,获颁第六届南洋华文文学奖。2021年,因居家防疫,学用电脑绘图,出版第一本原创儿童绘本《呼哈!呼哈!》,完成当画家的夙愿。

Khor Ewe Pin was born in the state of Kedah, Malaysia in the year 1955. A former teacher, he obtained his first degree in Zoology (University of Malaya), after which he pursued a postgraduate Masters in Education. He had also worked as an editor (both textbooks and others) and was a feature writer too. He started writing teenage novels in 2006. He sold the publication rights of 34 titles to Qingdao Publishing Group and Zhejiang Juvenile and Children’s Publishing House in The People’s Republic of China, to publish his books in simplified Chinese since 2010. He won the first prize in the 4th Xiang Qing Novella Writing Competition, and also came out tops to win the 1st Mahan Literary Award. In year 2020, he won the 6th Nanyang Chinese Literature Award. In year 2021, as a result of home quarantine pandemic prevention, he came to be acquainted with digital illustration. The publication of his first picture book Huha! Huha! serves to fulfill his long-standing wish to become an artist.
