This programme focuses on practical works. The techniques of fiction writing will be taught. Participants will acquire techniques in generating, writing, and editing Chinese fiction suitable for children or young adults. This workshop will be conducted in Mandarin Chinese.

Overview 概述

这个课程着重在小说创作,而非小说的欣赏。讨论范围包括,一个小说家的条件,一部小说的构成,写畅销小说与写文学作品的区别,如何写一部吸引读者的小说,如何制造悬念、惊喜和高潮。通过分析名家经典小说(现代主义到后现代主义)的写作背景、创作方法与叙事手法,提供多种写小说的可能性,以便让学员选择写小说的方式,创造出独特的小说风格。

This workshop aims to focus on the creation of novels. During this workshop, participants can look forward to discussing on topics such as the requirements to be a novelist and differences between the structure of a best-selling novel and literature. Participants will also explore on the methods to create suspense, surprise and climax in a novel. Participants will also be empowered to choose their own writing style through analyzing the various narrative techniques used in some of the most classic novels (modernism and post-modernism). However, participants ought to note that the focus of this workshop is not on the appreciation of novels.

完成课程后,学员可以

  1. 说明畅销小说与文学作品在创作上的区别。
  2. 在写小说的过程,应用制造悬念、惊喜和高潮的方法,让作品更具吸引力。
  3. 分析名家经典小说的创作方法与叙事手法。
  4. 尝试各种小说流派的叙事手法,从中找出最适合自己的写作风格。

At the end of the workshop, participants can expect to be able to:

  1. Explain the differences between best-selling novels and literature
  2. Captivate readers ‘attention through the use of suspense, surprise and climax in their novels
  3. Analyse the narrative techniques used in classic novels
  4. Identify their own writing style after exploring the various narrative techniques

Who should register? 谁该报名?

  • 中级写作者 – 定义:已把写作列为副业或主业,但是尚未在主流出版社发表过任何作品的写作者。
  • 高级写作者 – 定义:已通过主流出版社发表过至少一篇作品的写作者。

亚洲创意写作项目与驻校作家将会从报名者之中(包括等候名单)筛选出工作坊的参与者。

Writers including:

  1. Intermediate Writers — Writers who have chosen to pursue writing as a full time or part time career with a serious, professional intent but have not yet published with a mainstream or recognised independent publisher, or
  2. Advanced Writers — Writers who have published at least one book with a mainstream or recognised independent publisher, and/or published in at least one literary journal and/or anthology.

Participants will be selected by the Visiting Writer with assistance from the Asia Creative Writing Programme. A waiting list will be maintained.

About Khor Ewe Pin

1955年生,马来西亚吉打人。大学时代修习动物学系,后进修教育硕士学位。曾任教师、编辑、课本编者、专栏作家。2006年开始创作少年长篇小说、绘图小说等,著有超过40部作品。2010年起,陆续将34部作品授权中国青岛出版社和浙江少年儿童出版社在中国出版简体中文版,并在中国完成超过1000场校园讲座活动。少年长篇小说《七天》《闪亮的时刻》《十月》《鹅卵石》《青色的围墙》被改编成电视剧。曾获马来西亚第四届乡青中篇小说奖第一名、第一届马汉儿童文学双年奖,2020年因推广儿童文学的贡献,获颁第六届南洋华文文学奖。2021年,因居家防疫,学用电脑绘图,出版第一本原创儿童绘本《呼哈!呼哈!》,完成当画家的夙愿。

Khor Ewe Pin was born in the state of Kedah, Malaysia in the year 1955. A former teacher, he obtained his first degree in Zoology (University of Malaya), after which he pursued a postgraduate Masters in Education. He had also worked as an editor (both textbooks and others) and was a feature writer too. He started writing teenage novels in 2006. He sold the publication rights of 34 titles to Qingdao Publishing Group and Zhejiang Juvenile and Children’s Publishing House in The People’s Republic of China, to publish his books in simplified Chinese since 2010. He won the first prize in the 4th Xiang Qing Novella Writing Competition, and also came out tops to win the 1st Mahan Literary Award. In year 2020, he won the 6th Nanyang Chinese Literature Award. In year 2021, as a result of home quarantine pandemic prevention, he came to be acquainted with digital illustration. The publication of his first picture book Huha! Huha! serves to fulfill his long-standing wish to become an artist.
