Join us for a Masterclass with award winning writer, Jeanette Winterson.

This event is presented by the Asia Creative Writing Programme with the support of the National Arts Council, the School of Humanities at Nanyang Technological University.

In this 2 hour Masterclass, Jeanette Winterson will lead participants in the following four questions:

  1. What is the story you want to tell?
  2. What is the structure? 
  3. Who is in it? 
  4. What are your own words?

Learning Outcomes

After completing this Masterclass, participants will:

  1. develop their understanding of key aspects of fiction and non-fiction prose
  2. explore the story they are seeking to tell, the  structures of narrative, the essence of character, voice and other techniques
  3. gain a deeper knowledge of how to write key aspects of fiction and non-fiction prose
  4. obtain skills and experience to enable participants to write new and revised fictions

Who should register?

All fiction & non-fiction writers including:

  1. Intermediate Writers — Writers who have chosen to pursue writing as a full time or part time career with a serious, professional intent but who are not yet published with a mainstream or recognised independent publisher
  2. Advanced Writers — Writers who have published at least one book with a mainstream or recognised independent publisher, and/or published in at least one literary journal and/or anthology

Participants will be selected by NTU Creative Writing with assistance from the Asia Creative Writing programme. A waiting list will be maintained.

Course Prerequisites

To sign up, please register at the link above with the following documents:

  1. A 100 word writing sample
  2. A short summary of your writing project of ~50 words
  3. A short biography of ~50 words

About Jeanette Winterson

Jeanette Winterson CBE is a British writer. After graduating from Oxford University, she published her first novel at 25 and has written thirteen novels for adults, two collections of short stories, as well as children’s books, non-fiction and screenplays. Night Side of the River is her latest book.
