Learning Outcomes
During a 1 hour Writer to Writer session with the Visiting Writer you will:
- discuss your writing aspirations with an experienced writer in an encouraging environment
- obtain general advice from an experienced writer on your writing project
- obtain specific practical advice on aspects of the art and craft of writing, writing technique & your writing challenges
- obtain help on shaping your approach to your writing life
- understand what it takes to be a professional writer
Please note the one-on-one consultation is not a manuscript assessment.
Who should register?
Poets and fiction writers including:
- Intermediate Writers — Writers who have chosen to pursue writing as a full time or part time career with a serious, professional intent but who are not yet published with a mainstream or recognised independent publisher, or
- Advanced Writers — Writers who have published at least one book with a mainstream or recognised independent publisher, and/or published in at least one literary journal and/or anthology
Participants will be selected by the Visiting Writer with assistance from the Asia Creative Writing programme. A waiting list will be maintained.
Course Prerequisites
To participate please email the following documents to soh-ACWP@ntu.edu.sg:
- A 500 word writing sample (in Chinese)
- A short summary of your writing project of ~100 words (in Chinese)
- A short biography of ~100 words (in both Chinese and English)
Those accepted for a session with the Visiting Writer are encouraged to send a short list of questions beforehand to soh-ACWP@ntu.edu.sg

- $50 for adults
- $25 for students, unemployed, low income migrant workers & undergraduates from Singapore tertiary institutions

About Liang Wern Fook
One of the most influential artists born around the independence of Singapore, Dr. Liang is a multi-talented writer, composer, and educator. He is the Language Director of Xue Er You Language Centre. Voted as the “The person who best represent the Xinyao movement” by the public and “The most favorite writer” by students, Dr Liang is the only artist who has received the Young Artist Award (Literature) and The Cultural Medallion (Music) across different genres of art. Dr. Liang has over fifteen publications in various genres of creative writing, and has about three hundred songs to his name. Many of his musical works became international hit songs. He works were described as “bridging literature and music in the art scene of Singapore”.

新加坡家喻户晓的写作人、音乐人、学而优语文中心语文总监。曾获选“最能代表新谣精神的人物”和“最受学生喜爱的作家”,迄今唯一跨艺术门类荣获“青年艺术奖”(文学)和“文化奖”(音乐)的艺术家。已出版各种文类著作十余种,发表歌曲近三百首,作品在华人世界广传,被誉为“文学和音乐之间的桥梁”。

Advanced Creative Writing: Chinese Prose
This is a 13-week semester-long course on Chinese prose for undergraduates at Nanyang Technological University. This course focuses on the intensive practice of Chinese prose.
Chinese Mini-Fiction
This workshop provides participants with the opportunity to understand and practise the different characteristics of writing Chinese language mini-fiction to enhance their writing skills.
