I knew from the get-go that this workshop would be valuable in boosting my abilities as a poetry editor, especially for a South Asian-centric literary journal. My one true complaint is that I wished it were longer (perhaps 5 sessions?). The current line-up of 3 webinars felt insufficient to truly peruse the basics of Tamil Poetry. Professor Perundevi is clearly well-versed in her subject matter and even when I was blabbering nonsense and trying to grasp at straws when it came to sharing our interpretations, I never once felt judged or ridiculed (unlike my other professors from other institutions). Professor Perundevi always chose her words right to help me see more appropriate interpretations that sought cultural contextualisation, something I did not have as a non-Tamil-speaking South Asian. I loved pushing myself during her modular writing prompts and one of her writing exercises really helped me write a poem I am truly proud of. This comes after a long dry spell of feeling bereft of any creativity.
