A Simple World

Abstract or Summary of Project

“Welcome to ‘A Simple World’ where life is bleak and its main protagonist, Character A, is ever the apathetic soul. They do not feel much for the world as you can tell, but that is all about to change with your help, dear audience. Think of this as Character A’s mind, and help them feel a little bit more, each coloured seed holds an emotion. By picking and mixing, you can change the different emotions it holds and use it to help Character A live a little more. Use them as you see fit, to react towards the unjust, to enjoy the tiny pleasures in life, just anything other than this repetitive rut.”

This project is an interactive gallery exhibition consisting of a 2D game and console setup. The game comes in the form of an installation space, the way the creators feel would better make use of the gallery set up provided by the Final Year Project (FYP) Showcase. The game loops through a day in character A’s life and follows his daily activities as an office worker, showing the way his emotions affect how he sees the world around him.

The console setup consists of seeds (hand-held gadgets) and plants (tables with input panels) which allows the audience to pick/mix colours and input the colours into the system, respectively. The coloured cues are based on 6-7 pre-selected emotions that would hence influence ‘Character A’ to react in game. The game could be described to follow the lines of a visual novel, where each choice of the players would lead to ‘Character A’ reacting differently and incur the consequences accordingly.
