Oasis: An Application to Connect with the World

In the face of life transitions, young adults are particularly susceptible to loneliness, which may lead to a deterioration in physical and mental health. By encouraging young adults to connect with themselves, their community and the surrounding natural environment, Oasis aims to provide resources and tools to tackle both external causes and internal emptiness. This digital platform is an all-in-one companion that facilitates mood tracking, friendship establishment and nature-related experiences that nurtures social and nature connectedness.

“YOU”

“YOU”

“YOU” is a pixel RPG game built in Unity. The player plays as BOB, who has just moved to a new town. The game mimics a life simulator and is inspired by vintage pixel games. The player gets to interact with NPCs and objects in the game world, as well as perform tasks and earn in-game currency. As the game progresses, it gradually becomes more unhinged and chaotic. It explores the concepts of playing god and breaking the fourth wall and carries an increasingly sarcastic and cynical tone. BOB passes his judgment of the player’s choices and confronts the player directly at the end of the game.

cache

What significance does a person hold in a physical space? How would a space view us?

Cache is an audiovisual interactive experience that explores the human-spatial relationship in the perspective of a space. Human presence is visualized in a non-human way, as a series of coordinates and forces acting upon the space.

Human movement within the space as well as their bodily corner coordinates are tracked and manipulated into abstract pulsating shapes and lines. Some are more immediate, some appear seconds after, reflecting the difference in the perception of time for a space.

There is no obvious change upon detection of human presence within the space. When no humans are present, the visuals generated are constant reinterpretations of their presence imprinted behind. This effect can be achieved because the webcams continue to track the projected visuals left on the walls, altering slightly with each iteration. Human presence is therefore retained only momentarily before it distorts and eventually fades over time.

Micro ARcade

Micro ARcade explores the idea of adding physicality to augmented reality games, to allow players to explore and interact with their surroundings in a unique and immersive way.

Using augmented reality, this allows players to view the mossy field at a microscopic level, revealing nature’s struggle in the fight against microplastics that are otherwise invisible to the naked eye. These pollutants pose a serious threat to the environment, leaving it up to the players to use an AR character to explore and find microplastics to eliminate them, restoring the natural beauty of the mossy field.

Micro ARcade hopes to inspire a deeper connection and appreciation for nature through a ‘phygital’ (physical and digital) experience.
