Reimaging Of Tcm, “Back To The Roots”

Abstract or Summary of Project

This project entitled “Back to the roots” is the idea of taking a step back and retrace our past history and traditions. A proverb that strikes me the most states that,
“When the roots are deep, there is no reason to fear the wind.”
The very root of our existence brings us to the question that we belong to a tradition that we must uphold. The so-called “roots” are invisible to us, but it is something that links and tethers us to the world that we exist in. The sense of belonging, the connection to a community or to our family gives us something that we are able to define ourselves.

Process and More Details

In this project, the concepts and history of TCM are being analysed and broken down in such a way that it can be understood by using simple visual and verbal forms. It will not dwell deeply into the different ways of Traditional Chinese Medicine treatment but focusing more on the herbal treatment, which many of us have heard or used before.

Strings and nails are used to illustrate the flow of Qi (represented by the strings)
and rootedness (represented by the nails). As to keep up with consistency between the wall installations, strings and nails are used again to recreate the human meridians which is essential to identify ailments.

The idea of using basic shapes to simplify the complex concepts of TCM.

Square (The representative of structure and layout) >> Visual guidebook

Circle (The representative of time and continuous motion) >> Meridian clock

Triangle (The representative of equal forces among the sides) >> The three realms
