Memory Dispensing Machine (藝-味販賣機)

Memory Dispensing Machine explores the connection between experience and play. Using the vending machine as an avenue to create a marriage between consumer goods and education, bringing together people of all ages, pathing a way for strangers to connect over experiences.

With the use of glass bottles as a vessel to communicate significant events in history, the selected topic will be superimposed onto the bottle. This series features how worldwide events between the 1950s and 60s impacted and shaped Singapore’s social and cultural landscape. By exploring a new way of perceiving unorthodox education mediums – people can now get a glimpse into our local history with this project.

Silent Invader

Plastic – the single biggest addiction of humans in the 21st century. We use it every day, but do we know that we live, eat, breathe plastic bits? While the versatility and cost-friendly plastic make our lives better and more convenient, plastic consumerism comes with a price. Silent Invader is an immersive installation that underlines the entanglement of human and microplastics in everyday life. The three animated chapters highlight the microplastic impact on land, water, and air. The endlessly multiplying animated loops illustrate various plastic’s daily use. All the video fragments come together in one large-scale projection collage – an overwhelming reminder of plastic’s detrimental environmental effects.

The Actualising Self

Who are you? Who am I? What is self-identity, and how do we seek its best form?

This project will be an introspective take on identity, starting from my own. A deeper understanding of my self will be attempted through contemplative methods and experiences. With Maslow’s self-actualisation pyramid as a guide, the process of self-actualising will be explored and visualised through creative forms. Alternatively viewed as a cohesive and non-traditional self-portrait, this project hopes to invoke a meditative response for the viewer.

By Left

By Left is about the story of my life experiences based on the problems that I faced as a left-hander since young. There’s no denying that there are plenty of things in life that affect us and we have to deal with, and these include the inconveniences and problems that only the left-handers can notice and understand. The journey also reveals the reasons behind the problems that we faced and even things that we are unaware of in our daily surroundings. My objective is to create awareness, understanding and enrich knowledge about the problems / inconveniences of being a left-hander to everyone.

Deafening Dialects

Over the years, with every generation of Singaporeans, there is a growing decline in the usage of dialects and it may eventually die out. Language plays an integral role in preserving our heritage as well as an important component of our cultural roots. The loss of dialects would inevitably mean the loss of an important part of our cultural roots.

Deafening Dialects is a project that seeks to highlight the importance of identifying our ethnic roots through our heritage language. By drawing light to the problem of younger generation Singaporeans not being able to speak or understand dialect and highlighting the mistaken perceptions Singaporeans have towards dialects, this project aims to encourage younger generations of Singaporeans to start learning to speak and embrace their own dialect as part of their ethnic roots and recognise the importance of their heritage language.
