1.

It is expensive as lots of energy is required.
The residue will pollute the ocean which result is high concentration of salt, hence affect the salinity of the ocean and the ecosystem.

2.

Water soluble vitamins are polar. As like dissolve likes, it is soluble in water. It can form hydrogen bond with water and thus dissolve in water.
Fat soluble vitamins are non polar thus it can’t dissolve in water. It can’t form hydrogen bond with water thus it is not soluble.

3.

A) reduce energy consumption thus less SO2 is produce. Production of SO2 will result in acid rain.
B) reduce usage of transportation fuel thus less No2 is produce. At the same time there will be lesser cars on the road thus less NOx is emmited.
C) reduce usage of electricity thus less SO2 is emmited. Reduce usage of water thus lesser energy is required to clean the water
D) insulation help to retain heat hence lesser energy is required to maintain the temperature.
E) save up on transport thus reduce NOx emission

4.

A) coal fired electric field will produce dust which will reflect light, causing low visibility. The situation will worsen by the presence of valleys which prevent dispersion of dust.
B) unpolluted rain- pH 5.6
10 times more- pH 4.6

It’s expensive as lots of energy is required. The residue from the desalination technique will pollute the ocean as high concentration of salt is produce which will then affect the salination of the ocean and affect the ecosystems.

2.

Water soluble vitamins is a polar soluble compounds. As like disolved like, polar compounds will dissolve in polar solvent (water). It can form hydrogen bonds with water.
Fat soluble vitamins is a non polar as it is hydrophobic. It can dissolved in polar solvent.

3.

A) It reduce electrical consumption thus less SO2 will be produce which will cause acid rain.
B) Comsumption of transportation fuel will be reduce thus less NO2 will be produce. At the same time, there will also be lesser vehicles on the road hence lesser NOx emission.
C) It reduce the the consumption of water and electricity thus lesser SO2 is produce and lesser energy is used to ‘clean’ the water.
D) insulation helps to retain heat thus lesser energy is required to maintain the temperature.
E) This reduce the NOx emission on transportation.

A) coal fired electric utility plants produces dust which will reflect light thus causing low visibility. With the presence of valleys, the situation will worsen as it prevents the dispersion of dust.
B) pH of unpolluted rain- 5.6
10 times more acidic- pH 4.6

1.

a) Exothermic. A charcoal briquette release heat as it burns, combustion.
b) Endothermic. Evaporation is an endothermic change because water gain energy as they changes from liquid to gas state.
c) Endothermic. Melting process needs heat to proceed.

2.

The reactant has way higher energy than the product. At the end of the reaction, it gives off a lot of energy and that cause the explosion. The higher the relative bond strength the bigger the explosion.

3.

Temperature determine the direction of the heat flow while heat is the energy that flows from a hotter to a colder objects.
Example: Temperature of a small cup of water might be the same as the temperature of a large tub of water, but the tub of water has more heat because it has more water and thus more total thermal energy.

4.

a) Gasoline with an octane rating of 98 has the same knocking characteristic as a mixture composed of 98% isooctane and 2% heptane. In essence, this is a blend that is resistant to knocking.
Knocking: explosion caused by premature burning in the combustion chamber.

b) The octane rating does not give any additional information about whether or not the fuel contains oxygenates. Other labels around the pump should reveal this information.
