Cloning of dogs will only create the exact replica of the organism, without any genetic modification to the genes, therefore it does not improve the dog breeds. Furthermore, a cloned dog is just a physical copy of the original dog, without any memories or training. |

The pros of accepting the aid are, having sufficient food supply for nation, and genetically modified corn is able to grow under extreme conditions, such as droughts in this case. Hence, this will reduce any food shortage in the future. The cons are, the people may not be able to accept the idea of consuming genetically modified food because they are afraid that they might harm their bodies, and genetically modified food will threaten the natural balance. I will accept the aid because it is the fastest solution to reduce the effect of the famine. |

Yes, if more water is introduced into the environment, it will cause flooding. Obtaining purified hydrogen requires a lot of energy therefore it is expensive and at the same time, time consuming to do so. It is also difficult to store and transport hydrogen because it occupies a lot of space. Thus, it is impractical to use hydrogen as a fuel. Hydrogen is highly flammable and may ignite a fire easily. |

2.
Energy from the Sun is essential for living things on Earth as it provides warmth and energy. Just like fossil fuels, which provides electricity to carry out daily activities on Earth. Fossil fuels come from the decomposition of living things in a food cycle, and they obtain energy from plants. Plants photosynthesize in the presence of sunlight. |

3.
It is an expensive process and it uses a lot of energy. It uses fossil fuel to produce electricity for the electrolysis process of water. Burning of fossil fuels produces harmful pollutants such as sulfur dioxide that may lead to acid rain, which is harmful to the environment. |

a) C6(H2O)6 b) Refer to hard copy of exercise sheet c) No. Different isomers have different physical and chemical properties, hence they should have different sweetness. |

2.
Everything in existence is a chemical. It is impossible to have a chemical-free diet because even the local and organic diet are doubled with BPA and high toxic phthalate DEHP. It is only possible to reduce using plastic in cooking storage and preparation, and focus on fresh and low fat food to minimise exposure to BPA and phthalates. |

Styrofoam has air pocket. When styrofoam is dissolved, air trapped in pocket are released and the reformed solid does not have air pocket. Hence, reformed solid is much denser as polymer are closer to one another |
|
2.
A) it does not have high resistance to being cut. This may increase the chance of infectio in patient during the surgery. HDPE is similar to LDPE but it is more rigid, tougher and slightly dense. B) liner HDPE has lesser branches compared to branched LDPE. Hence ,HDPE is more rigid and higher resistance to being cut. |
|
3.
No. Paper is made up of cellulose and cellulose is make up of glucose molecule. Glucose monomer in cellulose are linked by beta linkage which make the cellulose packed into straight chain of polymer. This lead to formation of stronger interaction between molecule of polymer . Thus, giving paper a high tensil strength and rigidity whereas plastic is made up of LDPE which has less intermolecular forces of attraction due to it branched chains. Therefore,it has low tensil strength and can be easily stretch. |

A) biodegradable, flexible ,small, non-toxic B) PMMA is excellent optical properties, light weight ,shatter-resistance alternative to glass for many application. But it is impermeable to oxygen and other gases and cornea need significant supply of oxygen to stay healthy . Hydrogel can retain a lot of water to prevent dying out user eye. C) Hard contact Len made of plastic called polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) , also called acrylic or acrylic glass. Since oxygen cannot pass through PMMA contact len, it will cause discomfort that make wearing the lens impossible. Soft contact len made of pliable hydrophilic plastic called hydrogel which absorb significant amount of water to keep the lens soft and supple. The water content allow oxygen to pass through the len and keep cornea healthy. |
