Animal cloning is a complicated process. In many cases, the defects manifest themselves later and will kell the clone. Furthermore, Cloning produces genetics replicas of existing dogs, it cannot make any genetic improvements to the existing breed of dogs.

2.

Pros:
1) Could solve the famine crisis as more food will be available as GM food can produce higher crop level.
2) GM corn could be modified to enhance the nutrient level of the corn, hence solving problems like malnutrition which would be prevalent in a famine.

Cons:
1) Consumption of GM food increases the risk of food based allergies in people
2) Use of genetically engineered food will force pests to evolve, therefore the difficulty of controlling pest will be multiplied

Water may be a very dangerous pollutant. Depending on the weather condition produced steam may rise and form clouds around the road, or it may form fog at the road surface, or it may condense and drop on the road. Even in warm weather water on the road will be dangerous. In freezing weather it will make the road downright treacherous, especially if most or all vehicles on the road are powered by hydrogen fuel cell.

2.

Fossil fuels were formed as the result of photosynthetic process that rook place hundreds of millions of years ago. Solar energy was a necessary ingredient in the formation, so the energy that is stored in chemical bonds in fossil fuels originally was invested from the sun.

3.

The source of the required electricity—including its cost and efficiency, as well as emissions resulting from electricity generation—must be considered when evaluating the benefits and economic viability of hydrogen production via electrolysis.

a) CnH2nOn equals Cn(H2O)n

b) please google unable to draw

c) Due to the subtle difference in shape, chemical isomers behave differently in the body. Although glucose & fructose has the same chemical composition. Fructose is two times sweeter than glucose.

2.

There is no such thing that contains no chemicals. Everything around us is made up of chemicals from the water we drink to the air we breathe. For examples, apple seeds have roughly the same toxic-ant levels as sodium thiopental and in lethal injections with both beocoming toxic at around 100mg/kg.

Styrofoam is made up of polystyrene foam. When the polystyrene dissolves in the acetone, the air in the foam is released, causing it to look like you’re dissolving this massive quantity of material into a small volume of liquid.

2.

a)LDPE cannot be used in this application because it does not have the required strength.

b) The molecules of HDPE must line up in a way that produces the required strength. Using a thin liner of HDPE allows sufficient flexibility

3.

When the piece of plastic is stretched, the strip narrows and “necks down.” The molecules become aligned parallel to each other and in the direction of the pull. This alteration of the three-dimensional structure is not reversible, and if the pulling continues, the plastic breaks. When the same pulling force is applied to a piece of paper, the paper tears rather than stretching to any significant extent. The cellulose molecules in paper are held far more rigidly in place, and are not free to become aligned.

4.

4a) 1.Stable over time intended use 2. Non-toxic 3.Low Cost 4.Lack of solubility in body fluid.

4b)Several different types of contact lenses on the market and each uses different type of polymer.

Soft contacts are made of pliable hydrophilic (“water-loving”) plastics called hydrogels. Hydrogels absorb significant amounts of water to keep the lenses soft and supple.

Desirable properties include being nontoxic, permeable to oxygen, comfortable to wear, and inexpensive. Also desirable is the ability to conform to the shape of the eye and to be easily cleaned (if not disposable)

4c) As mentioned in the previous part, hard contact lenses are typically made of PMMA, a rigid non-gas permeable plastic. The soft contact lenses that replaced them are made of silicone, which is flexible and allows oxygen to reach the eye. Because of these properties, the soft lenses tend to be more comfortable

One carbon atom can differ from another in the number of neutrons (such as C-12 and C-13) and in the number of electrons. All carbon atoms differ from all uranium atoms in their number of p,n and e and also in their chemical properties.

2.

The symbol N represents the element nitrogen and stands for the naturally occurring mixture of all isotopes. The symbols 14N and 15N represents very specific isotopes with mass number of 14 and 15 respectively.

1) Expensive (relatively high cost compares to other methods)
2) Efficiency is not as high as other techniques

2.

I would expect the water soluble determines to be the polar compound because “like dissolve like”. The water is polar an if something is water soluble it will be polar too. Fat soluble will not be polar.

3.

There are generally 2 components to produce acid rain. The 2 sources are coal burning electric plants which produces SO2 which will combine with water vapor to produce dilute sulfuric acid. So by doing a, c, d will help to reduce electrical usage thus reducing the source of acid rain. Another source of acid rain is vehicle emissions where NOx will combine with water vapor to produce dilute nitric acid. So by b and e will reduce vehicle emissions thus reducing the source of acid rain.

4.

a) Coal fired plants release sulfur dioxide, creating sulfate particles that are responsible for 60% – 85% of the poor visibility in eastern parks.
b) Normal rain has a pH range of 5-6. So, if the rainfall in this park is 10 times more acidic the pH range must be 4-5.

1.

a) Exothermic because it releases heat as it burns.
b)Endothermic. Because Particles gain energy as they go from a liquid to a gas.
c)Endothermic. Melting process needs heat to proceed and takes it from the warm water.

2.

The bond energies of the products are larger than those of the reactants. This will lead to a negative net energy change indicating a large exothermic reaction.

3.

Heat is a form of energy. In contrast, temperature is a measurement
that indicates the direction heat will flow. Heat always flows from an object at high
temperature to an object at lower temperature. A drop of ot coffee is of the same temperature but you will get a bigger burn from the cup of coffee because of the higher heat content.

4.

a)Gasoline with an octane rating of 98 has the same knocking characteristics as a mixture composed of 98% isooctane and 2% heptane. In essence, this is a blend that is resistant to knocking.
b)The octane rating does not give you any additional information about whether or not the fuel contains oxygenates. Other labels around the pump should reveal this information.
