Group 4 Video 2 – Polyethylene (Implication to Society)

Polyethylene is the most widely used plastics in the world. There are different classifications of Polyethylene, such as Low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and High-density polyethylene (HDPE). LDPE has a high degree of branching and is often used in films and extrusion coating. On the other hand, HDPE has a low degree of branching thus it is tougher. It is often used in blow molding and pipes. Without special treatment, Polyethylene is not readily biodegradable and it poses adverse effect on human health and the environment. To reduce the usage of polyethylene, there are several ways such as using sugar cane to produce biodegradable polyethylene.
