Fat, also known as triglycerides, is one of the three main nutrients. Triglycerides are esters of three fatty acids and a glycerol molecule. Triglycerides are classify in two types; unsaturated and saturated. Unsaturated fats, such as oil, have a lower melting point due to the presence of double bonds in the hydrocarbon chain, whereby saturated fats, such as butter, has a higher melting point and stability.
