Stereochemistry in drugs has been gaining greater attention for the past few years in pharmaceutical research. Thalidomine and Ibuprofen are cases where individual enantiomers have markedly different effects;
Thalidomide: One enantiomer is effective against morning sickness, whereas the other is teratogenic.
Ibuprofen: S-ibuprofen is the active form while R-ibuprofen has no particular function.
