Material

According to the United Nations we dispose 2.12 million tons of waste every year. A staggering percentage of 91% of plastic is not recycled.

Through different cutting techniques and heat applied, different shapes can be formed as shown below

Making the dress’s train

This method was chosen after experimenting, as it depicts the water motion of gushing down the waterfall the best.

Step 1: Prepare sets of 2 layers of plastic bags

Step 2: Cut the bottom of the bags at the bottom edge

Step 3: Fuse sets of plastics by the side edges

Step 4: Iron the pieces. (A better shape will be achieved by fusing the bottom edge first)

Putting the pieces together

The pieces can then be joined using heat or being sewn(2 pieces being joined together with the help of the sewing machine)

The prototype was then formed by pinning the pieces together onto the mannequin

Choosing base colour
It can be seen that black is a little contrasting to the pieces and white supports the concept the best. It gives the most elegant outcome as compared to the other 2 bases.

Fitting for the model

My model then tried it on and the piece was altered to fit the model nicely. The goal was to make the upper body tight fitting. The hand sewing process then began.
