Our first stop was at the School of Family Medicine, Chiang Mai University, where we were given the opportunity to interview two doctors. The doctors gave us first-hand knowledge of his experience working with patients, important statistics pertaining to nutritional knowledge and the various campaigns that are currently implemented in Chiang Mai. The success of these measures are not exactly up to the government’s expectations, and much work is still needed to be carried out for an effective nationwide awareness of the important of nutrition.
After which, we headed for the School of Political Science in Chiang Mai University, where we sat in for a lecture about the history and economical status of Chiang Mai. It gave us valuable insight of the cultural and socio-economic differences between Chiang Mai and Singapore. After which, we began our surveying the students of Chiang Mai University and conducted focus group discussions. This gave us a comprehensive picture of the level of understanding of nutrition by this particular demographic.
After a long day spent at the university, we went to the CMU Night Market nearby for dinner and snacks as we chilled in the cool evening breeze. It was a productive day today, with the information gained and help from the doctors, we definitely have a much clearer picture of the issues of nutrition and healthcare experienced by the people of Chiang Mai.
